The COVID-19 pandemic may have changed the way Eid can be marked, but members of the Mississauga chapter of the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) wanted to make sure it was still a celebration, especially for local children.
On Friday afternoon (July 31), MAC set up the “Eid al-Adha Drive-Thru Carnival” at the Islamic Community Centre of Ontario on Dunwin Drive. Volunteers, including local politicians and Peel Regional Police officers, helped hand out gifts, goodies and balloons to close to an estimated 800 visitors.
On Monday, Aug. 3, the Muslim Association of Canada’s youth group, MAC Youth, continued its Eid celebrations by distributing 1,200 pounds of meat to 250 vulnerable families in Peel and Halton. The deliveries were part of the MAC Youth Food Share Campaign, which was launched in March to help those from suffering food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
