MAC Announces April 24th as the first day of Ramadan 1441

Ramadan Mubarak!

The Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) emphasizes the holistic message of Islam within the context of Canada’s diverse society.

MAC is pleased to announce that Friday, April 24, 2020 will be the first day of Ramadan 1441 Hijri and Eid ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, May 24, 2020, inshaAllah. MAC follows The Fiqh Council of North America which utilizes the criteria of the European Council of Fatwa and Research (ECFR).

MAC wishes our communities across Canada a blessed Month of Ramadan.

This Ramadan comes at a time of global struggle, where physical distancing is the only viable defense against COVID-19. This will undoubtedly impose abnormal restrictions on our congregations, night prayers (tarawih), and community iftars. We will strive to live this Ramadan with full spiritual splendour amidst these limitations, inshaAllah. We are reminded of times in our history where the beloved companions of the Prophet were living so close to the Ka’abah in Mecca, yet unable to perform hajj or their

prayers. Through those struggles, they maintained steadfast in their spiritual strength.

MAC is working to deliver educational programs and spiritual connections to ensure social cohesion during physical distancing. “In this difficult time where the COVID-19 death toll is mounting, this is time to hold tight to the rope of Allah(swt), observe fasting, and encourage each other to pray night prayers (tarawih) at our homes. In this time of financial uncertainty, it is also a great time for sharing and giving. I pray that through our fast and worship this month we find safety and love amongst one another, insha’Allah”, said Sharaf Sharafeldin, MAC Executive Director.

اَللّهُمَّ بَلِّغْنَا رَمَضَان

Allahumma Ballighna Ramadan

Oh Allah, let us reach the month of Ramadan.
