MAC Launches Ramadan Programming Starting Friday, April 24th

The Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) emphasizes the holistic message of Islam within the context of Canada’s diverse society.

As the blessed month of Ramadan approaches, MAC sends greetings to the Muslim community in Canada and all over the world. We pray that this Ramadan invokes Allah’s blessings and brings an end to this global crisis. Following the announcement of The Fiqh Council of North America which utilizes the criteria of the European Council of Fatwa and Research (ECFR), MAC has announced that Friday, April 24, 2020 will be the first day of Ramadan 1441 Hijri and Eid ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, May 24, 2020.

This year Ramadan comes at a time of global struggle, where physical distancing is the only viable defense against COVID-19. Our MAC Masajid, Centres and Schools continue to be closed following the provincial and local governments’ orders and public health directives. However, we will continue to strive to live this Ramadan with full spiritual splendour amidst these limitations, inshaAllah. MAC is launching a complete national educational and spiritual program organized by its chapters, centres and national teams. A new digital portal for all MAC Ramadan activities and resources is also launched on our website, www.macnet.ca. The portal gives access to local programs and initiatives.

With regards to live streaming of prayers, MAC will  NOT facilitate online Jumuah and Taraweeh prayers through their centres and chapters following the opinion of the Fiqh Council of North America, the European Council of Fatwa and Research and other councils. MAC encourages community members to pray at home. However, MAC acknowledges and respects other legitimate opinions of individual scholars who provide different ijtihad. Through the Ramadan programming, MAC is offering alternative learning and spiritual programming throughout the month of Ramdan that does not include Live Jumuah or Taraweeh prayers.

MAC wishes our communities across Canada a blessed Month of Ramadan.
