MAC Mourns the 215 Indigenous Children’s Bodies Found Buried at a Former BC Residential School.
MISSISSAUGA – May 31, 2021: The Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) emphasizes the holistic message of Islam within the context of Canada’s diverse society.
It has been extremely disturbing to learn of the recent discovery of the bodies of 215 children buried at a former residential school site in Kamloops, British Columbia.
The Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) mourns this news with our Indigenous brothers and sisters. The extent of the pain, anger, and trauma that is being experienced is unimaginable. However, this tragedy continues today, as we know that Indigenous communities are still struggling to claim justice. The mental health impacts on generations of trauma due to colonization continue to be felt deeply.
Today, MAC stands in solidarity and in recognition of the truth of all the struggles and sufferings of our Indigenous brothers and sisters across Turtle Island.
MAC continues to be committed to use education, through our schools and centers, as a means of awareness to promote action. We recognize that our communities must come together, support our Indigenous brothers and sisters, learn about their perspectives on healing, and walk together in a path towards reconciliation and justice.
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, that Allah, the Most High has said, “O My servants, I have made oppression unlawful for myself and I have made it unlawful among you, so do not oppress one another.” (Related by Muslim).
