MAC supports the appointment of Amira Elghawaby as Canada’s Special Representative on Combating Islamophobia

The Muslim Association of Canada congratulates Amira Elghawaby on her appointment as Canada’s Special Representative on Combating Islamophobia. Amira is uniquely positioned to realize the aspirations of the community through this role and has the confidence of our community. As she leads the government’s efforts to aid Canadian Muslims, she has our prayers and support.

Moreover, MAC supports the united voices of Muslim organizations in Quebec standing up with @AmiraElghawaby and the importance of this position – ‘Canada’s Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia’

In an interview with the Toronto Star, Memona Hossain, one of MAC’s directors, comments on the ‘call of resignation’ of Amira Elghawaby,

“Blanchet’s reaction “reinforces the need” for the role in the first place.

“We believe that she’s qualified and she has the support of the Muslim community in Quebec and Canada,” Hossain said.

“She’s open and willing to have those conversations and address issues head on. So whether she had to (apologize) or not, I think the bigger question is that she did it, and that is her approach to problem solving, which we support.”
