Remaining Steadfast in the Race of Societal Challenges 

Assalamu alikum warahamatullah wabarakatu

My dear brothers and sisters,

As we embark on a new Hijri year, marking 1445 years since that fateful journey of the Prophet (pbuh) and the companions, there is much to reflect upon.The believers in Mecca suffered persecution and injustice for years. Mecca was the only home they knew. It was where their family and wealth were, and where their sense of security had always derived from. The time came, however, when the Prophet (pbuh) called the believers to migrate to a new land, and to start a new life. They had to give up everything they worked for all their lives: their homes, their possessions, their wealth, and more. They did it willingly, and Allah Most High declared them to be the Sadiqoon (the truthful).

لِلْفُقَرَاءِ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ الَّذِينَ أُخْرِجُوا مِن دِيَارِهِمْ وَأَمْوَالِهِمْ يَبْتَغُونَ فَضْلًا مِّنَ اللَّهِ وَرِضْوَانًا وَيَنصُرُونَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الصَّادِقُونَ
For the poor emigrants who were expelled from their homes and their properties, seeking bounty from Allah and His contentment, and supporting Allah and His Messenger, [there is also a share]. Those are the truthful. (59:8)

The Muhajiroon (the migrants) had to sacrifice everything they had for the sake of Allah and for Islam to thrive and prosper. While the hijra was undoubtedly one of the most difficult tests for the believers, it opened doors for Islam and the Muslim community that would not have been opened otherwise. The new state in Madina ended up giving rise to the greatest civilization history had ever seen.

The Ansar (the helpers), on the other hand, showed a remarkable example of generosity and sacrifice when they hosted the migrants (Muhajiroon) in Madina, dividing with their new guests everything they possessed. We as Muslims here in Canada should embody and emulate this incredible spirit of selflessness in our own communities. There continue to be many refugees who come to this country, often escaping persecution and torture, and they are in need of this spirit of the Ansar. We pray for those who practice the behavior of the Ansar to be included in the supplication of the Prophet Muhammead (pbuh) “O Allah, forgive the Ansar and the offspringof the Ansar, and the offspring of the offspringof the Ansar.” [AlBukhari & Muslim]

Like the believers before us, remaining steadfast in the face of societal challenges and responding with strength, determination, and deep faith in Allah, will inshaAllah lead to the opening of doors that otherwise would not have been possible. Let us follow the great example of the first Muslim generation in sacrificing everything great to achieve something greater together: the contentment of Allah, and success in this dunya and the next.

Rester Ferme Face aux Défis Sociétaux

Assalamu alikum warahamatullah wabarakatu,

Mes chers frères et sœurs,

Alors que nous entamons une nouvelle année Hijri, marquant 1445 ans depuis ce voyage fatidique du Prophète (psl) et de ses compagnons, il y a beaucoup à réfléchir.

Les croyants de La Mecque ont subi la persécution et l’injustice pendant des années. La Mecque était la seule maison qu’ils connaissaient. C’était là que se trouvaient leur famille et leur richesse, et d’où leur sentiment de sécurité avait toujours découlé. Le temps vint, cependant, où le Prophète (pssl) appela les croyants à migrer vers une nouvelle terre et à commencer une nouvelle vie. Ils ont dû abandonner tout ce pour quoi ils avaient travaillé toute leur vie : leurs maisons, leurs biens, leurs richesses, et plus encore. Ils l’ont fait volontairement, et Allah le Très Haut les a déclarés être les Sadiqoon (les véridiques).

لِلْفُقَرَاءِ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ الَّذِينَ أُخْرِجُوا مِن دِيَارِهِمْ وَأَمْوَالِهِمْ يَبْتَغُونَ فَضْلًا مِّنَ اللَّهِ وَرِضْوَانًا وَيَنصُرُونَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الصَّادِقُونَ
Pour les pauvres émigrants qui ont été expulsés de leurs maisons et de leurs propriétés, cherchant la générosité d’Allah et Son contentement, et soutenant Allah et Son Messager, Ceux-là sont les véridiques. (59:8)

Les Muhajiroon (les migrants) ont dû sacrifier tout ce qu’ils avaient pour l’amour d’Allah et pour que l’islam puisse prospérer. Alors que la hijra était sans aucun doute l’une des épreuves les plus difficiles pour les croyants, elle a ouvert des portes à l’islam et à la communauté musulmane qui n’auraient pas été ouvertes autrement. Le nouvel État de Médine a fini par donner naissance à la plus grande civilisation que l’histoire n’ait jamais vue.

Les Ansar (les auxiliaires), en revanche, ont montré un exemple remarquable de générosité et de sacrifice lorsqu’ils ont accueilli les migrants (Muhajiroon) à Médine, partageant avec leurs nouveaux hôtes tout ce qu’ils possédaient. En tant que musulmans ici au Canada, nous devrions incarner et imiter cet incroyable esprit d’altruisme dans nos propres communautés. Il continue d’y avoir de nombreux réfugiés qui viennent dans ce pays, fuyant souvent la persécution et la torture, et ils ont besoin de cet esprit des Ansar. Nous prions pour que ceux qui pratiquent le comportement des Ansar soient inclus dans la supplication du Prophète Muhammead (psl) “Ô Allah, pardonne aux Ansar et à la progéniture des Ansar, et à la progéniture de la progéniture des Ansar.” [AlBukhari & Muslim]

Comme les croyants avant nous, rester ferme face aux défis de la société et répondre avec force, détermination et une foi profonde en Allah, inchaAllah conduira à l’ouverture de portes qui autrement n’auraient pas été possibles. Suivons le grand exemple de la première génération musulmane en sacrifiant tout ce qui est grand pour réaliser quelque chose de plus grand ensemble : le contentement d’Allah et le succès dans cette dunya et dans l’au-delà.
