Introducing Dr. Mahmoud Haddara: New Dean of the Canadian Islamic College

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Mahmoud Haddara as the Dean of the Canadian Islamic College (CIC) starting immediately.

Dr. Haddara is an accomplished scholar, respected educator and academic administrator, and dedicated community leader. He brings a unique blend of educational experience, academic leadership qualities and community service that distinguishes him as an outstanding candidate to lay the foundations for the new college.  

He finished his Ph.D. at University of California, Berkeley, and served in many capacities at Memorial University of Newfoundland, including professor, Department Chairman, Associate Dean, and Dean. He also had served in many roles spanning across the university institutions including serving as a member of the University Senate for 8 years, and chairing of the Dean of Student Affairs review committee. He established the Division of Cooperative Education to administer Co-operative Education programs at Memorial University. He also served as an Imam at Masjid Al-Noor in St. John’s – Newfoundland.

More recently, he completed Master of Theological Studies (MTS) of Western University in 2023. He also completed translating and editing the Tafsir of the Holy Quran (2018) and working on the translation of the Revival of Religious Sciences.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Haddara as the first Dean of the college” said Mr. Sharafeldin, President-Strategy of MAC. “He brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and wisdom to help translate the vision into a thriving institution” added Mr. Sharafeldin.

As we start this journey, Dr. Haddara will start implementing an ambition plan to lay the foundations for delivering our academic program and welcoming our first cohort of students.  

Canadian Islamic College (CIC) is a project of MAC and a fully accredited private college providing university level studies in which students can achieve an Honors BA in Islamic Studies.  As a higher education learning institution, CIC seeks to foster an atmosphere of open and critical inquiry while promoting the distinctively Islamic framework within which this inquiry occurs. It aspires to empower our communities through engaged inquiry, learning, and authentic scholarship. CIC is open to all learners, Muslims or those from other faith groups.
